In the Salvation Army Kettle alone, we collected $8,873.32 plus there was $340.00 from early donations for a grand total of $9,213.32. We had orgami and calligraphy activities for kids (and many adults!), and we also had people write messages of hope & support in English & Japanese on a huge paper roll which will be taken back to Tohoku on April 13. One of our organizers is Japanese and she will be going to help the earthquake refugees in her hometown of Shibata, Niigata Prefecture which is 3 hours from Fukushima. She will also be bringing letters of support from the Mayor of Penticton, The Penticton-Ikeda Sister City Society, & The Salvation Army Penticton.

I have to mention there were several people who could not come but sent cheques. All our seven performers, Ayako, Chihiro, Eiichi, Kevin, Kozue, Michael and Ross gave us the beautiful music. I appreciate so much to our friends who have helped spread the word about this benefit concert, include BC-JERF. Thank you! Now we are thinking what we can do next. The people impacted by the earthquake as they need sustainable support or next few years, and perhaps even the next few decades. I hope this kind of fundraising continues.
